How to Become An Aerospace Engineer: Career Guide - EstheraSTEM

Aerospace engineering is one of the fastest-growing industries and it is largely the design, construction and maintenance of aircraft, spacecraft, missiles and weapons systems. In short, Aerospace engineering is the primary field of engineering concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft.

An Aerospace Engineer is a person who design, develop & test aircrafts, spacecraft, satellite & missiles. They develop technologies for use in Aviation, defense system & spacecraft.

Note: Aerospace Engineering has 2 overlapping fields which are Aeronautical engineering & Astronautical engineering

1. Aeronautical Engineer
  • works with aircraft
  • study aerodynamic performance of aircraft
  • work within Earth's Atmosphere

2. Astronautical Engineer
  • works with spacecraft
  • works within and outside Earth's Atmosphere

Step to Step Guide to Become an Aerospace Engineer

Develop strong Math & Science skills

•Try getting involved (i.e participating, joining) with an Astronomy club or Engineering competition

•Apply for Internship to gain practical experience

•Apply for a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering in an ABET- accredited University

ABET- Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology

Aerospace Engineering degree courses usually last between 3-5 years depending on the type of qualification. The shortest accredited degree tends to be the three-year B.Eng in Aerospace engineering, hence,
