  Do you know Social media has a lot of disadvantages and advantages that pose a great influence on teenagers around the World? From helping teens to create online identities, communicate with others and build social networks, it also exposes them to a lot of negative acts.

Hence, In this blog post, I will shed light on the Influence of Social Media on Teenagers, its positive and negative effects. 

Before We dive in, 

Social Media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. It also means websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Such that Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are examples of Social Media.

Positive Influence of Social Media on Teenagers

●It teaches them variety of subjects beneficial to their Education. 

●It allows them to interact with their peers across the globe.

●It enlightens them of current events.

●It can be used for entertainment purposes.

●It gives room for self-expression.

Negative Influence of Social Media on Teenager

●Cyber bullying

Stalking

●Increased Mental Health risk

●Sleeplessness 

●Unrealistic views of other people's lives

Depression

●Isolation

Addiction

●Anxiety

How to limit Negative Effect/Influence of Social Media as a Teenager

 These are steps you can take to encourage responsible use of social media and limit some of its negative effects.

Be mindful of your social media habits

I know you love to update your status, share what you're watching, listening to, or even reading but I'll advice you to be mindful of those habits. It's probably taking much of your time! Just be mindful and avoid letting it to take much of your time.

Set reasonable limits

Be aware of how you let social media interfere with your activities(sleep, meals or homework,etc.). Make sure you have a good bedtime routine and avoid electronic media use. 

Also, Avoid gossips, Spreading rumors, Bullying or damaging someone's reputation online. Remember Social media is full of unrealistic images hence not all news are real.

•Set limits on the amount of time you spend on social media. It can be about ten to thirty minutes on Social Media.

Take a break from social media.

Connect with Those That Lift You Up or Inspires you.
